Small claims?

someone signed a retail installment contract for a vehicle for another person, the person failed to make the payments, and the car was repossed. The signer paid the full debt owed, and its suing in small claims court for the amount. Will the signer be able to collect on the debt, even though there is no doentation signed by the other person?
