Help!!! Question about something this kid said to me??

Hi, I am in 9th grade and I really do not talk to many people. I only have two friends, and i only see them in my last 4 cles, so that means I am silent all morning. Well, I walked into homeroom this morning and a boy in my cl said, oh i didn't even know you were in this cl. How come you don't talk? I was to shy to reply, and he asked another girl who doesn't talk just like me. But I was just wondering what he was getting at? Why was it so important for him to ask? Plus, he isn't the first guy to ask that.
